31st January 2020

Welcome back to the Spring Term - we hope you had a good break (seems like a long time ago now!) and that 2020 is treating you well so far. There are number of important messages here, so please make sure you spend a couple of minutes reading through.

Good communication is really important to us and we know it’s an area that can always be improved. We’re trialling sending a ‘brief’ version of the newsletter home on paper this month - this consists of the front page main messages and upcoming dates. The full version of the newsletter can still be found on the school website for download. We may also increase the number of text messages we send to remind you about important events.

We will be holding open classrooms again, for Year R to Year 6, straight after school on Wednesday 12th February. This is an opportunity for your child to share their work with you - please allow us to ensure the children all get to their parents first, and then come back into the classroom to see what they’ve been up to. The session will start at 3.20pm and finish at 3.50pm.

Parents’ evenings will be held again on Monday 24th February and Wednesday 26th February. We will be using the same online booking system as last term to co-ordinate your meetings as this was very well received. A letter with your unique details will come home early next week and let you know when booking opens.

We’re continuing to improve our playground infrastructure at the moment. You’ll have seen that our new fences have been completed over the holidays, which are allowing the children to play safely in the right places! We’ve also planted a new hedge along the bottom of the grass bank, which should fill out and level off over the next couple of growing seasons. This will help to retain some of the soil and keep the playground (and your children!) from getting quite so muddy in subsequent seasons. We’re so grateful to the TSA who are funding the installation of lots of new seating for playtimes, which should arrive soon. Finally, during the February half-term break, we’ve booked to have the top playground re-zoned and some play markings added to the lower playground in colourful thermoplastic. The contractors do need dry weather to install this though, so fingers crossed!

And finally to some staffing changes across the school. We’re saying a fond farewell to Mrs Sue Robinson, who has been our front of house support since September. Mrs Robinson is a qualified early years teacher and has enjoyed being back in a school setting so much that she’s heading back into the classroom at a different school - good luck! We’re delighted that Mrs Sharon Causley will be joining us in the office for a full five days per week as of Monday and we’ll keep you informed with regards to our new receptionist in due course. Nursery has welcomed Mrs Gilly Notley to the team as Nursery teacher and is settling in really well.

We’ve said ‘goodbye’ to Mrs Cottrell and Mr Haddon from the Year 1 teaching team this term, and we wish them both lots of success in their future endeavours. Joining the team at Easter will be Mrs Danielle McKinley and Mrs Sarah Addyman. Mrs Caroline Rushe is currently proving a hit in Glaciers until the end of the Spring term, and when Miss Jeffries, which has been fantastic for the children, heads off at half term to look after her own new arrival, Mr Morton and Mr Handscomb are looking forward to getting to know Icebergs even better for a few weeks! We look forward to seeing you at parents’ evening straight after half-term!
